Chief Turley was born a raised in Anniston, Alabama. After graduating from Saks High School in 1988, he attended Jacksonville State University and began his career in Law Enforcement. With over 21 years experience in law enforcement he has served as an Officer, Dispatcher, Sergeant, Detective, Chief Investigator, Commercial/CFI Helicopter Pilot and Airplane Pilot, Scuba Diver, Marine Police Officer, Polygraph Examiner, Field Training Officer, SWAT Team Leader, DARE Officer, Boot Camp Instructor, Crisis Negotiator, Advanced Accident Investigator, Motor Scout, Captain, and Chief of Police. He has received his education from Jacksonville State and attended JSU Graduate School and the Birmingham School of Law.
Chief Turley is a graduate of the 211th session of the FBI National Academy and numerous other federal and state training programs. He currently serves as the President of the St. Clair County Chief’s of Police, Past-President of the Greater Pell City Chamber of Commerce, American Red Cross Chapter Area Committee, and Habitat for Humanity past-board member. He serves also as a 1st Lieutenant with Pell City Squadron #118 of the Civil Air Patrol, former Deputy Commander of Cadets, and is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, National Association of Chief's of Police, International Association of Ethical Trainers, Alabama Association of Chiefs of Police, St. Clair Police Chief's Association, Fraternal Order of Police, Airborne Law Enforcement Association, American Polygraph Association, Alabama Association of Polygraph Examiners, past member of the Pell City Rotary Club and numerous other organizations, clubs, and committees throughout the area. He has also been appointed by the Governor to the Alabama Board of Polygraph Examiners and Licensing Board and appointed by the State Chief's Association as the Coordinator of the State-Wide Explorer Service Team. Chief Turley also serves as a Captain and the Unit Commander of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Air Support Helicopter Unit. He also volunteers as a Deputy and Pilot for the Etowah County Sheriff's Office.
Chief Turley first came to Pell City Police Department thirteen years ago and has served as Chief for the last seven years. He also serves as a certified police academy instructor, guest college instructor, private polygraph examiner, percussion instructor, flight instructor, and business owner. He lives in Pell City with his wife Miki and his son Christian. The Turley's also share their home with numerous foster children.
