Phase I - APOST Physical Fitness Standards Test
- One (1) minute timed push-ups with a minimum of twenty-two (22) proper push-ups.
- Following a twenty minute break, a one (1) minute timed sit-up event with a minimum of twenty-five (25) proper repetitions completed.
- Following a twenty minute break, a 1 ½ mile run is completed within 15 minutes and 28 seconds.
- Successful completion of the APOSTC Agility Course in 90 seconds or less.
Phase II - Written Examination
- Fifty percent (50%) of the raw final candidate score will be derived from a written examination for law enforcement candidates. No cut-off score. This is a timed examination.
Phase III - Background Investigation (One to six weeks)
- Successfully complete the department’s standard background investigation packet within one-week. All required documentation must be submitted in accordance with policy.
- Successfully complete the department’s background investigation phase in compliance with policy and standards.
- Successfully pass the department’s law enforcement screening polygraph examination. Allocate 4 hours for this process. Questions explore criminal involvement, honesty, theft, drug usage, applicant’s background packet, and integrity.
Phase IV - Review Board
- Successful candidates will undergo a review board administered by the Chief of Police and select members from various divisions of the department. This counts as the other 50% of the final score for each candidate. A minimum quantitative score of 70% must be achieved in this area to proceed forward in the process.
Phase V - Medical Screening
- Successfully pass a medical screening examination conducted by the City Physician.
- Successfully pass a drug screen examination.
Phase VI - Training
- Successfully pass the department’s Field Training (FTO) program upon employment with the department.
- Successfully complete the department’s one (1) year probationary period.
